Description
Potassium Silico Fluoride Supplier, 98%Min Potassium Fluorosilicate, K2SiF6 for Ceramics

Potassium Silico Fluoride Supplier, 98%Min Potassium Fluorosilicate, K2SiF6 for Ceramics

1. Product Introduction

Potassium fluorosilicate, also known as potassium hexafluorosilicate or K2SiF6. It is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula K2SiF6. It is a white crystalline powder. Potassium fluorosilicate is almost insoluble in cold water, insoluble in liquid ammonia and alcohol, and soluble in hydrochloric acid. Potassium fluorosilicate is mainly used in wood preservation, pesticides, ceramic enamel manufacturing, aluminum and the smelting of magnesium, the manufacture of optical glass such as potassium fluoride and potassium glass, and the raw materials for synthesizing mica and welding electrodes.

Potassium Fluorosilicate features

1. Solubility: Potassium fluorosilicate is highly soluble in water. When dissolved, it forms an acidic solution due to the hydrolysis of the hexafluorosilicate anions.

2. Acidity: When potassium fluorosilicate dissolves in water, it undergoes hydrolysis, resulting in the release of fluoride ions (F-) and the formation of silicic acid. This reaction makes the resulting solution acidic.

3. Toxicity: Potassium fluorosilicate is considered toxic if ingested or inhaled in large quantities. It can cause irritation to the respiratory system, eyes, and skin. Proper safety precautions, including the use of personal protective equipment, should be followed when handling this compound.

3. Product Applications

Potassium fluorosilicate finds various applications in industries such as metal processing, wood preservation, glass manufacturing, electroplating, and chemical synthesis. It is used as a flux, wood preservative, refining agent, opacifier, and source of fluoride ions in different processes.

  • Flux in metal processing: It is used as a flux in the aluminum and magnesium industries to lower the melting point of metal oxides, facilitating their removal during refining processes.
  • Wood preservation: It is an effective wood preservative due to its ability to penetrate wood fibers and inhibit the growth of fungi and insects.
  • Glass manufacturing: Potassium fluorosilicate is used as a refining agent and opacifier in the production of glass and ceramics.
  • Electroplating: It is employed in electroplating processes to enhance the adhesion of metal coatings to substrates.
  • Chemical synthesis: Potassium fluorosilicate is used as a source of fluoride ions in various chemical reactions.

4. Potassium Fluorosilicate Storage Ways

1. Temperature: Store potassium fluorosilicate in a cool and dry area away from direct sunlight and sources of heat. The compound should be kept at room temperature or below.

2. Ventilation: Ensure good ventilation in the storage area to prevent the accumulation of any potentially harmful fumes or gases that may be released.

3. Separation: Keep potassium fluorosilicate away from incompatible substances, such as strong acids, alkalis, oxidizers, and reducing agents. It is important to store it separately to avoid any chemical reactions or contamination.

4. Spill containment: Have appropriate spill containment measures in place, such as spill trays or absorbent materials, to handle accidental spills or leaks. Clean up any spills promptly and dispose of the waste properly according to local regulations.
