► Description

 

 

 

Inroduction: Sodium fluoroaluminate is one kind of odorless white solid or powder.

 

The IUPAC Name of this chemical istrisodium;hexafluoroaluminum(3-). This

 

chemical belongs to the product categories which is inorganics. It’s slightly soluble

 

in water, butinsoluble in anhydrous hydrogen fluoride.

 

Origin:Sodium fluoroaluminate is the inorganic compound with the formula

 

Na3AIF6 . This white solid,discovered by the Brazilian José Bonifácio de Andrada e

 

Silva, occurs naturally asthe mineral cryolite and is used extensively in the

 

industrial production of aluminium metal. The compound consists of the sodium

 

(Na+) salt of hexafluoroaluminate(AlF63−).

 

Production :Most sodium fluoroaluminate is manufactured from aluminium oxides,

 

hydrofluoric acid, and sodium hydroxide or the equivalent reagent hexafluorosilicic

 

acid:6 NaOH + Al2O3 + 12 HF → 2 Na3AlF6 + 9 H2O

 

 

Safety: Cryolite is poorly soluble in water, which mitigates problems. The LD50 =

 

600mg/kg for the comparable compound aluminium trifluoride.
